If you have a project that you want to modify to create a new document, Overleaf offers the possibility of copying a project.

[edit] Introduction

  • If you don't have an account enter your e-mail address and set a password, click Register and that's it, you will be redirected to the project management page where you will be guided into how to create a new project.

If you already have an account, click Login in the upper right corner, then type in your email and password and click the Login button.

Once you are logged in, you should see the Overleaf Project Management page

[edit] Making a copy of a project

In the Project Management page (see the introduction) locate the project you want to copy, click the small box right behind it, a check mark should appear, then click the button More, and in the drop-down menu click Make a copy.

Alternatively, you can open a new copy of a project you have open by clicking on the Menu, and then Copy.

A text box will pop up, there you should enter the name of the new project, then click Copy.

A new project will open in the editor with a copy of the files of the project you cloned.

[edit] Copied projects

A copy of a project will be owned by whichever author creates a copy (even if the original was owned by another author). It will have no other collaborators added, and link-sharing will be turned off by default.

The History, Tracked Changes, and Chat will be empty in the copied project. If you are copying an old project, it's worth noting that the copied project will run the most recent version of TeXLive, which could be different from the version run on the original. If you see any problems with a copied project, please contact us.
